CS 120 - Degree Requirement

While pursuing an AA degree in Computer Aided Design, I am required to take an Introduction to Computers class.  Having worked extensively over the past 10 years on computers in my career, I didn't think that I would learn much during this term.  I have to tell you, I have already learned things in this class that have made my time in front of the computer more productive.  I look forward to learning more tricks and shortcuts.  When do we get around to search techniques?

"Why wonder, when you can Google?"

Is this Britain’s Oldest Gamer?

Are you one who believes that playing video games is an unhealthy waste of time?  That they are detrimental to the physical and mental well-being of those who play them?  Then allow me to introduce you to Kathleen "Kit" Connell, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday.  Kit spends at least two hours every day playing games on her Nintendo DS.  She lives alone, managing to care for herself despite being a double amputee, having lost both of her legs.  She claims that playing video games has helped her be more mentally and socially active and, most importantly, they bring joy to her life.  Kit is living proof that games, despite common criticism of being a harmful form of escapism are instead, actively adding value to peoples’ real lives.

Telecommuting

The beauty of telecommuting is that it allows one to conduct business from just about anywhere in the world.  For the last 11 years I have worked with companies and individuals from California to New York, I have helped locate and interview prospective employees for clients in Canada, France, and India.  I have done this from a small office right here in Central Oregon, and I never had to get on a plane or drive outside of the area.  Internet technology allows me, and many others, to live in one of the more beautiful areas in America while conducting business in dense and polluted cites.  I don't know what I would be doing today, or where I would be doing it, without the advancements of technology that include the internet.

Rough Commute

Carport Brewery

Welcome to the CarPort Brewery.  What started out as a friendly bet and a beginners home-brew kit, has grown into an obsessive hobby.  After making one too many messes in the kitchen while brewing the beer on the stove, I upgraded and moved the operation outside.  But it wasn't enough.  I needed bigger kettles, I needed a mash tun, I needed a pump and hoses and fittings...and, well you get the idea.  Here is a little picture journal of a year in home-brewing.
